The food wrapup

When we were leaving Phillips European, stuffed with chicken stir fry (me), shrimp and broccoli crepes (my mom) and dessert (everyone), my mom asked me why I'd never brought her there before.

I have no idea. Probably because the food isn't inexpensive. And if you go, you can't leave without having dessert. And she complains about "getting fat" a lot, so one tends to avoid taking such a person to places with dessert that you just have to eat. Plus, I'd never noticed before, but Phillips is frequented by a lot of old people. It's not a place for young things like me, with young things like Exhausto-Boy (who did amazingly well for the 2 hours we were there!). I am blessed to have a child that likes going to restaurants and sits there and eats and hangs out with everyone. He was an old man when he was born. Hmm...maybe Phillips is just right for him, then.

Next on the eating smorgasborg (it was my mom's 60th birthday last Wednesday, so I thought she needed a few treats) -- a visit to La-Tea-Da tearoom on Park and Alexander and lunch at Plum House on Monroe.

Silandara Bartlett-Gustina was a Rochester outsider when she moved to the city at the turn of the millennium without even laying eyes on it. She quickly took root, declaring it the best place she's lived (including the UK, several U.S. states and Barbados). Now on the brink of her 30s, she's somehow transformed into a wife, mom, homeowner and freelancer. But she's determined to still have a life -- giving you an inside look at what makes Rochester a cool place to call home.
